Topic: Logging problem

Hi,

I recently purchased Wififofum 1.1 from the App Store. All was well for a few days, but now it will no longer log anything - I enable logging, it finds various networks, but when I turn logging off again, nothing appears in the list. Any suggestions please? I am using an iPhone 3G with the latest firmware.

Thanks,
Xand.

Re: Logging problem

Hi,

I've not seen this problem so if you could help us solve it by giving us more info that would be great.

Can you ensure your iPhone has free space in which to save the log files please?  Could you also please tell us how many logs you already have on the phone?  It may be that you have set your accuracy filter to high... so perhaps check that in the settings.  You can reset all the settings to the defaults by tapping the default button.

When you do turn on logging what does the logging icon in the bar at the bottom say?

Another thing to try would be to "reset" the application would be to delete it from the phone (by holding down on the icon until it wobbles and then tapping the X).  However, if you do this you will lose your existing logs from the device so if you do chose to try this then please ensure you have emailed yourself any you wish to keep first.

Sorry for all the questions but the more information we get the more likely we'll be able to solve the problem.

Re: Logging problem

I'm having the same problem to add any logs. my loggign tab says "You have no logs", I've never successfully created a log until now. I installed the application on the 6th april 2009 .. and i can find locations where ever i go but it doesnt add them to log. I've played with acc. filter - tried it on 20 and on 500 and no change anyway...

By the way: over the "Logging" icon it says "Poor Fix" in a red tooltip.

Anyone can help with this issue? by the way, i've read some posts on this forum about the ability to connect to certain APs directly from the app and not using the iPhone settings.. can anyone tell me if this feature works and how to do it?

also tried reinstalling app from app. store

Re: Logging problem

It won't log if you have a poor fix. You can increase the accuracy number but but then your surveys are less accurate. Does your iphone have a clear view of the sky and are you on 3G with GPS?

Re: Logging problem

I'm a long-time WFFF user who just purchased the iPhone version via the app store. Like xand and asfaltboy, I am encountering the "you  have no logs" message. I'm using a 3Gs with the latest firmware upgrade and plenty of memory.  I have reset all variables to default and tried changing values as well. No 'poor fix' message is displayed. I have not deleted an reinstalled yet, but that's next... thanks for any suggestions you can provide.

Re: Logging problem

3GS Iphone with this problem. Will not log WITH or WITHOUT gps enabled. All settings at their max. How do I fix or how do I go about getting a refund...

Re: Logging problem

I have 3GS iPhone also and just purchased the software and it appears I am having the same problem with not being able to log.
I turned up the sensitivity to 200 and it still does not appear to work.
I turn on logging. Answer Yes. Red number appears.
Then after awhile it says No Fix.
Why?
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Logging problem

Okay in answer to administrator marek see below:

Hi.

Can you ensure your iPhone has free space in which to save the log files please?  YES Could you also please tell us how many logs you already have on the phone?
NONE - That is the problem

It may be that you have set your accuracy filter to high... so perhaps check that in the settings.  You can reset all the settings to the defaults by tapping the default button.

I just changed to 200. But it did not work with default.

When you do turn on logging what does the logging icon in the bar at the bottom say?

It asks if I want to resume logging. When I click YES, it first said NO FIX not is has a number 9 saying it is logging. But there are no logs. NOW it changed to NO FIX... My next step is to delete it and add again

WHAT DOES the button in the upper left hand corner do which says Edit now and changes to Done?

Another thing to try would be to "reset" the application would be to delete it from the phone (by holding down on the icon until it wobbles and then tapping the X).  However, if you do this you will lose your existing logs from the device so if you do chose to try this then please ensure you have emailed yourself any you wish to keep first.

Will do this next.

Re: Logging problem

Okay, It finally worked even though I do still get poor fix on and off.
But the thing I needed to do was turn it off to see the log.
NOW it works.
User error.

So now I can see it in Google Earth, but how do I do it in Google Maps?
Also the location seemed to be a little off. A few houses back for my wifi access point.
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Logging problem

As I move around I see I need to move around to get a better fix or that the fix will vary.
Also, still able to save log files, so works great so far.
Will raise rating from 3 starts to 4 for now and would give 5 but still need to play with some more.

Re: Logging problem

Answer to some...correct me if I'm wrong.

The logs (links to the KLM file) is not created until AFTER you turn the logging back to OFF.
You have to turn it off to get a log file (*.klm) created and listed.
In fact I would bet that the KLM file is not created until that time either.

Furthermore logs (KLM files) do not seem to be kept on the iPhone at all. It's likely that the "survey samples" are sent to the server continuously while the logging switch is on. Once logging is switched off, the log klm is closed and packaged with a URL link is written to the app data file. I'm guessing at all this but this is what I've observed so far.

Re: Logging problem

I should start working soon....

Re: Logging problem

I had a similar problem - networks being found OK but logging not working. I got a blue badge on the logging icon with a "0" in it which didn't change no matter how many networks were being found on the radar. It turned out to be a problem with file permissions which I fixed using SBSettings downloaded from Cydia. Select the "More" icon then "Extras & Options" and "Fix User Dir Permissions". Hope it works for you too...

You can increase the accuracy number but but then your surveys are less accurate.
